bio

steph moelders have acquired her artistic sense from her mother, traute moelders, who has been an exceptional artist throughout her life. from german descent, and having lived in the u.s., hongkong and singapore, and after many years working as a marketing executive in new York and europe, she had to enroll in school as a full-term international student to be able to live and stay in the united states. her first semester in 2004 at windward community college determined her direction to pursue an art degree. her mentors in traditional and representational art during her studies at wcc trained her eye and technique. she had the priviledge to learn from excellent and wonderful teachers at winward community college and university of hawaii manoa, women and men who have inspired and pushed her to go forward with the arts. but her passion towards change in human behavior and perception led her to rethink her direction in art. steph has always been an environmentalist, activist and “tree hugger”, in her youth more on the radical side with regional organizations, which changed over the years more to a subtle doing-the-best-I-can-attitude. when she arrived in hawaii she was appalled by how little was done to relieve the environment after having moved from one of the most environmentally active countries, germany. no recycling at that time, a still terrible transit system and human ignorance towards nature, visible on her almost daily runs on kailua beach and hikes all over the island. she is currently enrolled at the university of hawaii at manoa to pursue her BA, keeps on picking up human debris at the beach and works on a series of paintings targeting racial discrimination.
